Thomas Atenya

Early Career Leadership Fellow at Genetics Society of America - GSA

Thomas Atenya is currently serving as an Early Career Leadership Fellow at the Genetics Society of America since May 2021. In April 2022, Thomas began an internship with the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, focusing on global health, which will continue until December 2024. As a Research Assistant at CMB Genomics from March 2023 to August 2024, Thomas contributes to scientific research, and previously held the position of Research Intern at the Institute of Primate Research from March 2021 to March 2024, where responsibilities included monitoring laboratory equipment temperatures. Additional experience includes internships at Nakuru Provincial General Hospital and the Government Chemist, where Thomas gained hands-on experience in laboratory procedures and safety protocols. Educational qualifications encompass a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Pwani University, a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from Meru University of Science and Technology, and ongoing graduate studies in Neuroscience/Neurology at the University of Ottawa.
