Oguz Tuncay

Oguz Tuncay has a diverse work experience in the field of research. Oguz is currently employed as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Genome Insight Inc since September 2022.

Prior to their current position, they worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UT Southwestern Medical Center from March 2018 to July 2022. Oguz was mentored by Dr. Maria Chahrour and focused on identifying and characterizing novel ASD genes using forward genetics in mice and analyzing sequencing data from diverse patient cohorts.

Before that, Oguz worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UNAM Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology from August 2015 to July 2017, under the mentorship of Dr. Ayse B. Tekinay.

Oguz also gained research experience as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at Bilkent University from September 2014 to May 2015, where they established breast cancer xenograph models and analyzed tumor growth in response to cisplatin therapy. Additionally, they worked as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at Hacettepe University in January and February 2014, studying mouse models of ischemia-induced depression spread and its relation to migraines and medication response through various experiments.

Oguz Tuncay has an extensive education history. Oguz started their academic journey in 2011 at Bilkent University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics. Oguz studied at Bilkent University for four years and successfully completed their undergraduate degree in 2015.

Following their bachelor's degree, Oguz Tuncay continued their education by enrolling in the Master of Science (MSc) program at Bilkent University. Oguz specialized in the field of Neuroscience during their master's program, which lasted two years. Oguz completed their studies and obtained their MSc degree in Neuroscience in 2017.

Motivated by their passion for neuroscientific research, Oguz Tuncay pursued further academic advancement by joining the UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2017. At the UT Southwestern Medical Center, they embarked on a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Neuroscience. This intensive research-based program spanned five years, concluding in 2022.

Throughout their educational journey, Oguz Tuncay consistently focused on the study of Neuroscience, gradually progressing from a bachelor's degree to a master's degree and ultimately a PhD. Oguz'sdiverse educational background in Molecular Biology and Genetics, coupled with neuroscientific expertise, has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the intricate workings of the brain and its molecular underpinnings.
