Mike Barthel has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Mike started their career at Orion Consulting in 1996, where they served as a Practice Lead and Principal Consultant. In this role, they managed a team of consultants and also undertook billable assignments as a Project Manager, Project Lead, Business Analyst, and Senior Programmer/Analyst for clients such as Cargill, Wells Fargo, and Select Comfort. Mike provided technical support for the business development function at Orion.
In 2001, they joined US Bancorp as a Project Lead, leading the development team on various web projects in the Retail Internet Banking area. After about two years, they moved on to Select Comfort, where they held multiple roles. As a Web Developer III, they built enhancements to multiple websites, including selectcomfort.com. Mike also provided project planning, budgeting, business analysis, use case development, and technical design services for various business areas, particularly E-Commerce. Later, they became a Project Manager and member of the IT leadership team, directing development and technical services staff on multiple E-Commerce, Intranet, and Marketing initiatives, including selectcomfort.com projects.
In 2007, Mike joined Genus Technologies as a Program and Project Manager. In this role, they managed customer relationships and high-visibility customer projects, specializing in technologies such as FileNet, IBM Content Manager ECM, Kofax, Connections, WebSphere portal, and Web Content Management (WCM). Mike also engaged in resource and program management activities, as well as supporting customer-facing sales. Later, they were promoted to Director of Professional Services, accountable for managing service delivery teams, maximizing services revenue and resource utilization, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Mike Barthel attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire from 1983 to 1987, where they pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Management Information Systems.
