Bernhard Liese currently serves as Professor Emeritus at Georgetown University since May 2024, following a tenure as Department Chair of International Health from 2003 to April 2023. With extensive experience at The World Bank from 1976 to 2002, Bernhard held several key positions, including Director of the Health Services Department and Senior Advisor for Human Development in the Africa region. Additionally, a two-year secondment to UNDP’s Global Health Program as Senior Advisor on HIV/AIDS occurred from 1999 to 2000. Bernhard holds an MD and MPH from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn / Bonn University and Harvard School of Public Health.
