Jim Briggs

Jim Briggs is an accomplished academic and sports official with extensive experience. Currently serving as the Associate Dean of Research at the University of Portsmouth, Jim leads research initiatives in various engineering and technology disciplines, and oversees the Centre for Healthcare Modelling and Informatics as a Professor of Informatics. Additionally, Jim is the founding chairman of the International American Football Officials Association and holds leadership positions within the British American Football Association, including chair of the Rules Committee and previous roles as Disciplinary Officer and Director. Jim's expertise in officiating extends internationally through involvement with the International Federation of American Football and the European Federation of American Football. An educator since 1983, Jim has contributed to the academic field with a DPhil in Computer Science from the University of York and has a strong background in research related to computer applications in sports.
