Abbigail Tumpey currently serves as Vice President of Institute Communications at the Georgia Institute of Technology, having assumed the role in July 2023. Prior to this position, Tumpey spent nearly 25 years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where notable roles included Associate Director for Communication Science for the Public Health Infrastructure Center and Acting Associate Director of Communication. During the COVID-19 pandemic's second year, Tumpey led CDC's communications efforts, overseeing a large team and implementing a significant reorganization. Additional achievements include leading national public health campaigns focused on healthcare safety, managing communication strategies for zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, and monitoring antimicrobial resistance. Tumpey holds a Master of Public Health from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Michigan State University.
