Katharina Brecht

Katharina Brecht, PhD has a diverse range of work experience spanning various roles and institutions. Katharina is currently working as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Population Health Sciences at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) starting from September 2021. Prior to this, they held roles at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, starting as a Research Assistant in 2016 and then progressing to become a Project Leader from October 2018 to September 2021. During their time at Tübingen, they also served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Nieder Lab in the Institute of Neurobiology, where they worked on the neuronal basis of complex cognition in corvids, contributed to teaching activities, and supervised master students.

Before joining Tübingen, Katharina worked at the University of Cambridge. Katharina held the position of Undergraduate Teaching Supervisor from February 2016 to May 2017 and also worked as a Doctoral Researcher from October 2014 to May 2017. Katharina'sresearch at Cambridge focused on investigating the social-cognitive abilities of birds of the crow family and their similarities to human cognition. During their time at Cambridge, they were involved in various academic and leadership roles, such as being a Graduate Representative, a Fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, and an Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of European Psychology Students.

Additionally, Katharina gained research experience as a Research Intern at the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, where they participated in the design and preparation of several studies on childhood cooperation and conducted experiments with children and infants. Katharina also worked as a Research Intern at the Comparative Cognition Lab at the University of Cambridge, where they conducted a study on the attribution of desires in corvids.

Earlier in their academic career, Katharina was involved in the EFPSA Junior Researcher Programme, conducting a study on eyewitness testimonies and self-construal effects on memory of misinformation. Katharina also worked as a Junior Researcher & Communication Officer, managing the team's work and coordinating communication efforts. Additionally, they gained research experience as a Research Assistant at the Knowledge Media Research Center, assisting with literature reviews and data collection, and as a Research Assistant at the Hospital of the University of Tübingen.

Katharina Brecht, PhD, obtained a Diploma in Psychology from the University of Tübingen, where they studied from 2008 to 2013. Katharina later pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Experimental Psychology at the University of Cambridge, from 2014 to 2017. In 2016, they earned a certification in Animal Research in Germany from the University of Tübingen. Additionally, in 2014, they obtained a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 115/120.
