Director Functional Biology And Experimental Therapeutics Lab/ Neurogenetics Unit at Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP)

Ivelisse Sanchez, Ph.D. has extensive experience in the field of neurosciences and neurodegenerative disorders. Ivelisse served as a Principal Investigator at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) - Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, where they designed and implemented research projects focused on gene discovery and molecular mechanisms in neurodegenerative disorders. Ivelisse also supervised researchers at various levels.

Dr. Sanchez later joined the Health Sciences Research Institute Germans Trias/Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) as the Director of the Functional Biology and Experimental Therapeutics lab/Neurogenetics Unit.

Ivelisse is also the co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Biointaxis, an academic spin-off specializing in the development of gene therapy for rare neurodegenerative disorders. In this role, they oversee strategic initiatives, manages research personnel, and handles scientific communications, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of the scientific strategic plan.

Currently, Dr. Sanchez serves as the Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Molecular Histology, where they contribute to the strategic plan and ensures the quality and impact of research reports published by the journal.

Throughout their career, Dr. Sanchez has held research and teaching positions at renowned institutions such as Boston University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and McLean Hospital, focusing on the role and regulation of neurodegenerative disorders and cell death pathways in neurodegeneration.

Ivelisse Sanchez, Ph.D. completed their education with a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Developmental Neurobiology and Neurosciences at Harvard Medical School from 1993 to 1998. Ivelisse also holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology from The Graduate Center, City University of New York. In 2013, they obtained accreditation in research at the Associate Professor level from AQU Catalunya (Agency for the quality in University System).
