Caroline Poole is an experienced professional in grants management and communication strategies, currently serving as a Grants Manager at Gilbert Family Foundation since June 2022, after previously holding the role of Associate Grants & Operations Manager. Prior to this, Caroline worked at Global Ties Detroit as the Manager of Communications & Strategic Initiatives and as an Operations Associate, from February 2020 to May 2022. Caroline's early career includes a position as a Mayor's Office Correspondence Intern for the City of Chicago, where responsibilities involved drafting official communications and managing constituent relations. Additionally, Caroline served as a Recruitment Coordinator and Program Support Coordinator at One Million Degrees, while also gaining leadership experience as an Americorps Member with Public Allies. In academia, Caroline obtained a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Writing from Michigan State University, where involvement in the University Activities Board honed essential event planning and leadership skills.

The Gilbert Family Foundation is a private nonprofit foundation founded by philanthropists Dan and Jennifer Gilbert to address their two priorities and passions: accelerating a cure for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and transforming the city of Detroit, Michigan. The Foundation has embarked on two bold, high risk/high reward NF1 research initiatives: (1) the Gene Therapy Initiative (GTI), to develop curative therapies that address the underlying genetic abnormalities in NF1 patients, and (2) the Vision Restoration Initiative (VRI), inspired by their son’s loss of vision from NF1 and with a goal of advancing vision restoration therapies.
