Akim St.Omer

Akim St.Omer is currently the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism at Girl Scouts of Greater NY. Prior to this role, Akim was the New Market Outreach Lead Specialist at Girl Scouts of Greater New York from October 2020 to July 2021. Akim's previous role was as the Independent Schools Partnership Specialist also at Girl Scouts of Greater New York from October 2019 to October 2020. Prior to their time with Girl Scouts, Akim worked as an Associate Teacher School Wide Support/Communications Consultant at Ethical Culture Fieldston School from September 2017 to August 2019 where they were responsible for teaching kindergarten-second grade music, science and shop classes, overseeing early morning arrival for fourth-fifth grades, coordinating roof time and recess for pre-kindergarten-kindergarten classes, and teaching after school classes in woodshop, basketball, cooking and ice skating for pre-kindergarten-fifth grades. Additionally, Akim was responsible for school wide support as a member of the Progressive Teaching Institute Planning Committee, the ECFS Essential Values Conference planning committee (2018 and 2019), the hiring committee for Diversity Coordinator/Social Studies Coordinator, and the ECFS working group that synthesizes Habits of Mind and Heart We Value in Colleagues. As a communications consultant, Akim created visual and written content for the Communications Department, produced, edited and distributed the school's weekly e-newsletter, and edited and created web content using
