Experience: Nuna (she/they) has been an educator, facilitator, and coordinator within education and educational settings for the last five years. Nuna's praxis as a fumbling space holder and lifelong student rests at the intersections of Black Queer Feminist Theory, intersectionality, mindfulness, and liberatory practices. They strive to co-create safe(r) spaces and conscious communities with the youth and adults of the communities I serve. Within their operational framework, she centers the people who have been historically placed at the margins. She adores the power of storytelling and weaves art-making into facilitation at any turn possible. They also believe in power-sharing and collective decision-making. She works to incorporate this philosophy within the way that they co-create space with and for youth.
What I love about Girls Empowerment Network: To me Girls Empowerment Network is revolutionary. The organization provides access to the tools that build that self-knowing and efficacy to girls and gender-expansive youth who need it most! Just by doing that, Girls Empowerment Network affirms these girls and gender-expansive youths’ existence in whatever way they sound, look, or act. By doing this work, we also show solidarity to the already-existing and usually over-worked folks at schools like the counselors, the student support managers, and the teachers who continuously show up for Houston youth. I am grateful to embody these core values of self-love, acceptance, and solidarity in community in the work that I do with Girls Empowerment Network.
