Dr Vellaian Karuppiah

Dr Vellaian Karuppiah has a diverse and extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr Vellaian currently serves as the Vice President of Operations at Gland Pharma Limited since 2022. Prior to this, they were the Global Head of Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) at Strides Pharma Science Limited (SPSL) from 2020 to 2022. In their role at Strides, they were responsible for standardization, process development & technology transfer, life cycle management, project management, technical operations, and site transfer projects across all manufacturing sites globally.

Before joining Strides, Dr Karuppiah held various positions at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories. From 2018 to 2020, they served as the Head of Process Development and Tech Operations, CMC Project Management & Packaging Development. Dr Vellaian'sresponsibilities included overseeing process development, technology transfer, project management, and packaging development. Prior to this, from 2017 to 2018, they were the Delivery Head of Topical Formulations. Dr Vellaian also served as Site Head from 2016 to 2017 and as Director & Head of Process Development and Technology Transfer from 2012 to 2016.

Earlier in their career, Dr Karuppiah held leadership roles at Actavis (now Allergan) from 2007 to 2012. Dr Vellaian was the General Manager & Head of Process Development & Technology Transfer, Packaging Development, Project & Alliance Management. In this role, they provided strategic direction to the process development and technology transfer team and was responsible for new product transfers, site transfers, scale-up, and process validation of oral solid dosage formulations. Dr Vellaian also served as the Deputy General Manager & Head of Process Development & Technology Transfer, Plg. Dev., and PMO, focusing on product transfers and process validation.

Prior to their time at Actavis, Dr Karuppiah worked at Wockhardt Ltd. as a Senior Manager in Global Technical Services & PMO from 2005 to 2007, and at Orchid Healthcare as an Assistant Manager from 2003 to 2005.

Overall, Dr Vellaian Karuppiah has demonstrated expertise in operations, process development, technology transfer, and project management throughout their career in the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Vellaian Karuppiah completed their 10th Standard degree at Sri Vivekanandha Vidyavana High School in 1988. Dr Vellaian then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmaceutics from Annamalai University from 1989 to 1996. In 2015, they completed an Executive Education Program in Strategy Management, Marketing Management, and Finance Management from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Additionally, they completed the NHLP (New Horizons Leadership Program) in Organizational Leadership from Dr. Reddy's Flagship Leadership Development Program in 2017.
