Sophie Benger

Sophie Benger is an accomplished communications professional with extensive experience in strategic communications, particularly within governmental and environmental sectors. Currently serving as Head of Strategic Communications at Global Fishing Watch since September 2024, Sophie previously held the role of Senior Communications Manager at Climate Group from December 2019 to September 2024, where responsibilities included government and policy communications, media engagement, and social media strategy for significant events like COP. Throughout a diverse career, Sophie has worked with various organizations, including IGD, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Co-op, and the Government Digital Service, focusing on crafting and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, and promoting impactful programs. Sophie holds an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from The Open University.
