Deborah Brown

Alternate Civil Society Board Member at Global Network Initiative

Deborah Brown is an Alternate Civil Society Board Member at the Global Network Initiative. Deborah has over 20 years of experience working in the international development sector with a focus on disability inclusion, education in emergencies, and protection.

Brown started their career as a Creative Director at the KidsABILITY Initiative. In this role, they were responsible for developing and implementing creative marketing and communications strategies.

Brown then spent two years as the State Team Lead for the ENGINE II Programme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with Mercy Corps. In this role, they oversaw all aspects of the programme, including programme design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Most recently, Brown spent six months as an International Programme and Grant Officer with World Vision. In this role, they conducted research on compliance with DG ECHO funding requirements and developed an engagement package for DG ECHO funded programs. Deborah also managed projects in the education in emergencies and protection thematic areas, wrote proposals for ECHO projects in Afghanistan and the Dutch Relief Alliance, and collaborated with World Vision Finland on their thesis to study disability inclusive approaches deployed in programming for refugees with disabilities in the Northern Ugandan resettlement community.

Deborah Brown completed their Masters in International Humanitarian Action at Ruhr University Bochum. Deborah also has a Master's degree in International Humanitarian Action (NOHA+) from the University of Groningen. Her Bachelor of Arts is in Development Management from the University for Development Studies. Deborah also has a Mandela Washington Fellowship- Certificate in Civic Engagement from Drexel University. In addition, they have a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management from Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University and a Project Management Professional Institute certification. Finally, they have a BA in Development Management from Ghana Christian University College.
