Matthys Labuschagne

Matthys Labuschagne is an experienced mining professional with a comprehensive background in underground management, production engineering, and mine planning. Currently serving as Alternate Underground Manager at Gold Fields since November 2017, Matthys has previously held key roles including Senior Production Engineer and Underground Manager on secondment. Matthys’ tenure at Glencore from January 2013 to November 2017 encompassed responsibilities as a Development Engineer and Underground Supervisor, where contributions included developing safe and efficient production plans, managing teams, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. Previous positions at Xstrata Copper and Curragh Mine focused on ventilation engineering and extensive hands-on mining operational experience. Matthys earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mining) from The University of Queensland and has foundational education from The University of Pretoria.
