Thomas Vertin (Tom)

Tom Vertin has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Thomas "Tom" is currently working as a Market Credit Executive at First Bank since August 2022. Previously, Tom served as a Board Member, former President, and CEO of Golden State Bank from May 2020 to the present. During their tenure, they successfully guided compliance remediation, built infrastructure for sustainable growth, and improved operating results.

Before Golden State Bank, Tom worked at Pacific Mercantile Bank from January 2016 to September 2019, where they held various positions including President and Chief Executive Officer. Thomas "Tom" led the bank's transformation by addressing regulatory concerns, implementing culture change, and developing a focused market strategy. Additionally, they excelled in building infrastructure and achieving significant milestones such as the removal of Cease and Desist Orders.

Tom's work experience also includes serving as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Global Sales and Service at Silicon Valley Bank from April 2008 to February 2012. Thomas "Tom" was responsible for enhancing collaboration among cross-functional teams and improving the client experience while significantly contributing to sales volume.

Throughout their career, Tom has held leadership positions at various organizations and banking institutions such as Carpenter & Company and Civicbank of Commerce. Thomas "Tom" has also been involved in several boards, including The Commonwealth Club of California, Churchill Club, and TheatreWorks, showcasing their commitment to public affairs and thought leadership within the community.

Furthermore, Tom Vertin possesses a strong educational background, having served as an Adjunct Faculty at San Jose State University while working full-time in banking. Their expertise and experience reflect their capabilities as a strategic leader in the banking industry.

Thomas "Tom" Vertin holds a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) degree from San Jose State University. Thomas "Tom" also obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the same university, majoring in Political Science with a second major in Psychology. In addition to their formal education, Tom has acquired several certifications, including Harvard's FinTech Online Short Course from Harvard University in March 2022, Blockchain Technologies: Business Innovation and Application from MIT Sloan School of Management in September 2021, and a California Community College Teaching Credential from California Community Colleges in January 1985.
