Andrea Chen

Co-Founder & CEO at Propeller

Andrea Chen has over 15 years of work experience. Andrea began their career as a High School English Teacher at John McDonogh Sr. High School in 2004. In 2006, they took on the role of English Teacher/ Grade-level chair at New Orleans Charter Science & Mathematics High School. That same year, they also became the Advisory Board Chair at First Book-GNO. In 2008, they served as a Consultant for the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Curriki, and the Greater New Orleans Writing Project. In 2009, they became the Quality Initiatives Director at the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools. In 2011, they co-founded Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation and served as the Executive Director. In this role, they supported social entrepreneurs and launched and scaled social ventures.

Andrea Chen attended Stanford University from 2000 to 2004, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Anthropological Sciences. From 2004 to 2006, they attended the University of New Orleans, where they earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. During this time, they also attended Harvard Graduate School of Education, where they studied Education Policy and Management. Additionally, they obtained a Certificate in Business Bridge from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth in 2005.
