Biruk Alemayehu, Ph.D has held various positions in their career, beginning with a Junior Statistician at Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE) de Angola in 1993. Biruk then moved to a Project Officer role at UNOPS/UNDP in 1996, followed by a National Administrative & Finance Officer role at Africare in 1998. From 2002 to 2009, they held a Tax Accountant role at Pennywise Accounting & Tax Services, and an Associate/Assistant Professor role at Southern University at New Orleans from 2009 to 2018. In 2018, they became an Adjunct Professor at Grand Canyon University, and in 2019, they founded Addis NOLA Ethiopian Cuisine and Cultural Hub. Currently, they are the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager at Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation.

Biruk Alemayehu, Ph.D obtained their Engineer's degree from Mendel University in Brno in 1992, followed by a Master of Professional Accounting from Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge in 2001. In 2003, they completed an Internal Audit Course from Louisiana State University, and subsequently obtained their PhD in Public Policy/Public finance from Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge in 2008. Biruk Alemayehu, Ph.D also holds a Producer Life, Accident And Health or Sickness Insurance from the Louisiana Department of Insurance obtained in May 2022, as well as a Next Level Business teaching certificate and a Quality Matter.
