Lianna Fung, Ph.D.

Scientist I (Molecular Biology) at Gordian Biotechnology

Lianna Fung, Ph.D. has a diverse range of work experience in the field of molecular biology, with a focus on developmental biology and gene expression. Lianna is currently working as a Scientist I (Molecular Biology) at Gordian Biotechnology, starting in 2023.

Before their current role, Dr. Fung held various positions at UC Irvine, including Interim Postdoctoral Scholar from September 2022 to December 2022. During their postdoctoral research, they investigated the roles of retinoic acid and cellular retinoic acid binding proteins during development and specification of different tissues in vertebrates. Additionally, they studied the mechanisms of hindbrain and neural crest patterning during early vertebrate development. Dr. Fung also worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Irvine from September 2015 to September 2022, where their research projects focused on gene expression pattern formation, segmentation, and live imaging of gene expression in zebrafish.

Prior to their time at UC Irvine, Dr. Fung worked as a Research Assistant at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies from January 2015 to August 2015. Here, they performed experiments and data analysis for research projects involving directed fate conversion of cells and investigating mechanisms of major depressive disorder. Lianna also gained experience as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the Salk Institute from September 2013 to December 2014.

Dr. Fung's earlier roles include being a Lab Assistant at Ludwig Cancer Research from May 2012 to July 2015, an Undergraduate Instructional Apprentice at UC San Diego from January 2014 to March 2014, and an Undergraduate Student Researcher at UC San Diego from April 2012 to February 2013. Furthermore, they participated as a member of the UCSF 2010 iGEM Team at UC San Francisco, where they contributed to a project involving synthetic biological devices for enhanced cancer detection.

Overall, Dr. Lianna Fung has gained extensive experience in molecular biology, developmental biology, gene expression, and various laboratory techniques throughout their career.

Lianna Fung, Ph.D., has a solid educational background focused on biological sciences. Lianna completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in General Biology at UC San Diego from 2010 to 2014. Subsequently, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biological Sciences at UC Irvine from 2015 to 2022, further enhancing their knowledge and expertise in their field of study.
