Smitha Shambhu began their work experience as an Intern at BioCOS Life Sciences in 2018. In this role, they developed tools for automated image processing in order to diagnose cancer biomarkers. Smitha also created a web portal using HTML, SQL, and JSP to provide easy access to cancer genomic information.

Smitha held this role until 2021 and was responsible for conducting research. In this role, they instructed undergraduate students on laboratory protocols and activities, and graded lab reports, providing detailed feedback to students.

Smitha Shambhu completed their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biotechnology at B. M. S. College of Engineering from 2015 to 2019. After that, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology at the University of Central Florida from 2019 to 2021. In November 2020, Smitha obtained two additional certifications: Animal Research Certification from CITI Program, A Division of BRANY, and Human Subjects Research - Biomedical Research Investigators and Key Personnel from the same institution.
