Stephen Hughes

Stephen Hughes is the current Chief Financial Officer at GovernmentCIO. Stephen has also served as the EVP, CFO & Treasurer at Schafer Corporation and as a Principal Consultant.

Stephen has been with GovernmentCIO since April 2018 and in their role as Chief Financial Officer, they are a key member of the leadership team. Stephen is responsible for directing all traditional CFO & Treasury functions and M&A while also serving as a mentor and trusted advisor to the CEO and COO.

At Schafer Corporation, Stephen was responsible for developing and implementing growth strategies, establishing budgets and bidding processes, and assisting in the successful sale of the company’s commercial unit, Asynchrony, to World Wide Technologies.

As an Independent Consultant, Stephen served as a Principal Consultant from January 2009 to January 2014.

Stephen has a proven track record of success in both turnarounds and growth strategies. Stephen is an innovative thinker who is able to develop creative solutions to complex problems. Stephen is a strong leader with excellent communication skills.

Stephen Hughes has a B.B.A from James Madison University in Accounting and is certified from the Virginia Board of Accountancy as a Certified Public Accountant.

Stephen Hughes reports to Brian Moran, Chief Executive Officer. They are on a team with Erin Squires - Chief of Staff to the CEO, Mike Brandt - VP, Capture & Proposal Operations, and Ryan Elliott - VP, Business Development.
