Derrick Owens

Derrick Owens currently serves as an In House Specialist at Grand Rapids Public Schools, a position held since October 2023. Owens has extensive experience in education and athletics, including a long-standing role as the Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at East Grand Rapids High School since September 2016. As the Director and Owner of Championship Game Rules, Derrick Owens focuses on motivational speaking, mentoring, and professional development in educational and athletic settings. Owens also leads CGR. LLC and directs the Grand Rapids Seidman Boys & Girls Club, with a rich history in coaching including notable talents like NBA All-Star Derrick Rose. Previous roles include Director of Education and Youth Development at the Urban League of West Michigan, Lead Club Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Grand Rapids, and an educator at Grand Rapids Public Schools. Derrick Owens holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wayne State University.
