Great Bay University is a newly established public university located at the heart of Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, China, supported by the Dongguan municipal and the Guangdong provincial governments. Along with the vivid development of the area,  Great Bay University strives to be a world-class research university staying at the forefront of knowledge and innovation. 

In April 2021, Gang Tian, the former vice-president of Peking University and the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was formally appointed as founding president of Great Bay University.

Great Bay University aims to cultivate high-end talents who can adapt to the rapid changes in the future and lead the development of science and technologies in the Greater Bay Area. The mission is to serve national strategies, cultivate outstanding talents, guide technological development and lead higher education reform.

Giving priority to science and engineering subjects, Great Bay University concentrates on the development of integration and innovative research of cutting-edge technology and focuses on six directions: physical sciences, advanced engineering, life science, new-generation information science technology, and science and finance management.
