Brian Ross has extensive experience in the renewable energy and sustainable development fields. Brian currently holds the position of Vice President of Renewable Energy at the Great Plains Institute. Prior to this, they worked at the Great Plains Institute for Sustainable Development as a Senior Program Director, where they oversaw solar energy programs and policies, land use and smart growth services, and sustainability planning. Brian also co-founded and managed CR Planning, a planning consultant firm focused on providing sustainable development services to local governments and state agencies. Brian began their career as a Principal at Biko Associates, Inc., specializing in land use, energy, and natural resources. Throughout their career, Brian has written comprehensive guides and model ordinances to promote sustainable development practices.
Brian Ross holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Urban Planning, Environmental and Energy Planning from the University of Iowa, which they obtained between 1984 and 1986. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Cultural Anthropology at Grinnell College from 1978 to 1982. In addition, Brian Ross has obtained certifications such as AICP Certified from the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014 and LEED Green Associate from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) in 2012.
