Karen Thompkins has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Karen began their career in 1998 as a Senior Data Analyst at IPRO, specializing in managed care. Karen then worked as a Health Consultant at the DeKalb County Board of Health from 2001 to 2003, before transitioning to the role of Executive Director at Keep DeKalb Beautiful in the DeKalb County Government. From 2005 to 2010, Karen served as a Community Administrator, Program Director, and Health Consultant at the DeKalb County Board of Health, focusing on community health programs. Karen later joined Ogilvy Public Relations as an Account Supervisor from 2010 to 2012. Karen then worked at the Directors of Health Promotion and Education as an Internship and Fellowship Manager from 2012 to 2014. Most recently, they held the position of Program Manager in the Public Health Services department of the Montgomery County Government from 2014 until 2021. Currently, Karen Thompkins is the Director of Community Partnerships at GBMC HealthCare since August 2021.
Karen Thompkins received a Bachelor of Science degree from Spelman College from 1987 to 1990. Karen later pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Policy & Management from Emory University, completing it from 1996 to 1998. Prior to their undergraduate studies, they studied biology at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1986 and 1987.
