Shelly Harter has extensive experience in information management and development within the nonprofit sector. Currently serving as an Information Specialist at Greater Boston Legal Services since September 2015, Harter previously held the position of Development Associate at the same organization from September 2006 to September 2015. Prior to this, Harter worked as a Data Manager at both Political Research Associates and New England Research Institutes, Inc. Additionally, Harter began a career in academia as a Research Assistant at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Harter holds a Master’s degree in Gender/Cultural Studies from Simmons University, a Bachelor’s degree in English Writing and Rhetoric from St. Edward's University, and a certificate in Politics and Public Policy from UMass Boston.

Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) plays an indispensable role in the lives of poor people in the Boston area by providing free, high-quality civil (noncriminal) legal assistance to low-income individuals and families. GBLS helps its clients navigate the complex maze of laws and regulations, enabling them to obtain the basic necessities of life. GBLS annually provides assistance to over 10,000 people who live at or below 125% of the federal poverty standard ($30,750 for a family of 4).
