Stephen Kaba

Director, Mrna-based Antigen Design, Vaccine Research at GreenLight Biosciences

Stephen Kaba has extensive experience in the field of microbiology and immunology. Stephen has held various roles in different organizations, starting in 2005 as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the National Research Council/Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, where they conducted advanced research and mentored junior scientists. From 2008 to 2015, they worked as an Immunologist/Molecular Biologist and Project Leader at Clinical Research Management, Inc., focusing on developing a malaria vaccine using self-assembling protein nanoparticle technology. Stephen then served as the Scientific Director at the Naval Medical Research Center from 2018 to 2020. Since 2015, they have been employed at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, initially as a Senior Research Scientist/Principal Investigator and currently as a Microbiologist/Principal Investigator. Their responsibilities include guiding research, mentoring staff, managing laboratories, and generating clear and concise written documents. In 2022, they joined GreenLight Biosciences as the Director of mRNA-based Antigen Design in their Vaccine Research department.

Stephen Kaba has a Bachelor of Science - BSc (Honors) degree in Agriculture, Animal Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, which they obtained from 1990 to 1994. Stephen then pursued a Master of Science - MSc degree in Biotechnology (Plant and Microbial Production) from Wageningen University & Research from 1996 to 1998. Additionally, they hold a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology/Vaccine Development from Wageningen University & Research. In 2018, Stephen obtained certifications in "Creating Presence" from Karen Carter-Harvey and "Mastering Common Interview Questions" from LinkedIn.
