Ned Mamula

Dr. Ned Mamula is a geologist and project manager with over 30 years of experience in energy and mineral research and resource policy issues. He was previously a research geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, and is currently directing the geological characterization and geoscience policy portion of the Department of Energy’s Critical Minerals Program. Most recently, he has taken a leading role in standing up the new Minerals Sustainability Division within DOEs Office of Fossil Energy.

Dr. Mamula has briefed senior administration officials, members of Congress, corporate officers, and think tanks, on energy and mineral resource issues. He has also delivered keynote presentations to national professional society meetings, and on Capitol Hill, that delve into economic geology, energy resources, mineral exploration, production, and geopolitical resource issues, especially the need for critical minerals imports, including rare earth elements.

His technical writings have appeared in numerous scientific and geological journals, while his policy position pieces have appeared in Forbes, American Spectator, Real Clear Policy, National Review, Washington Times, The Hill, U.S. News and World Report, and others. His presentation on America’s need for critical minerals was broadcast live on C-SPAN.

Dr. Mamula served with the Trump Transition as an advisor and subject matter expert on geoscience issues including energy, minerals, and federal lands for the Department of the Interior team. He received a B.S. in geology from Slippery Rock University, M.S. in economic geology from Penn State University, Ph.D. in petroleum geology and geophysics from Texas A&M University, and Masters in Resource Policy from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies.

Dr. Mamula is the author of a popular new book on critical minerals titled: Groundbreaking! America’s New Quest for Mineral Independence.
