John Avirett

John joined Greenspring Associates in 2005. Previously, he served as an Associate at Zurich Financial Services. John is responsible for sourcing and due diligence efforts on fund, direct and secondary investments and is also involved in Greenspring Associates’ Portfolio Impact Program. John currently serves on the board of Volition Capital, Meritech Capital, Columbia Capital, Elephant, Bedrock Capital, Silversmith Capital Partners, Scale Venture Partners and Altos Ventures. He is a board observer of Workfront, WalkMe, Demandbase, Scopely, OneLogin, Recycle Track Systems (RTS), Outdoorsy, Ceros and Salsify.

John played a meaningful role in Greenspring Associates’ investments in Chewy (NYSE: CHWY), Zulily (acquired by QVC), GrubHub (NYSE: GRUB), Nutanix (NASDAQ: NTNX), Cloudflare (NYSE: NET), TeamViewer (acquired by Permira), MuleSoft (acquired by Salesforce), TheRealReal (NASDAQ: REAL), Lyft (NASDAQ: LYFT), euNetworks (acquired by Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners), Assent Compliance (acquired by Warburg Pincus), SolidFire (acquired by NetApp), ScanSafe (acquired by Cisco), Mavenir Systems (acquired by Mitel), Gigya (acquired by SAP), Medialets (acquired by WPP), Turn (acquired by Singtel), Lithium Technologies (acquired by Vista Equity Partners), MapR Technologies (acquired by HPE), Woowa Brothers, RigUp, TripActions, Logz.io, UserTesting, Tray.io, Namely, Cyara, TurnKey, Fuze, Intrinsic Therapeutics, RealSelf, and Ticket Monster.

John graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Economics. Outside of work, John sits on the board of the Baltimore Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School and the Gilman School.
