Tim Brom has worked in the tech industry since 2001. Tim began their career at Orion Computers as a Junior Technician, where they built new computers, did repairs, made deliveries, and performed service calls. In 2004, they worked as a Web Designer for the Dean of the Chapels Office and as a Junior Systems Engineer, Emulab lab assistant, and Beowulf Cluster Administrator for Calvin College. In 2007, they worked as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Kentucky, where they ported FDK-type Computed Tomography reconstruction algorithm to a Graphics Processing unit. From 2009 to 2011, Tim worked as an Embedded Software Engineer at DornerWorks, an Adjunct Instructor at ITT Technical Institute, and a Senior Software Engineer at Belcan Engineering. From 2011 to 2012, they were a PhD Student and Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University. Finally, from 2012 to 2015, they worked as an Embedded Software Development Engineer at Gentex Corporation and a Security Researcher at Grimm (SMFS, Inc.).

Tim Brom received a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from Calvin University in 2007, and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky in 2008.
