Alexander Bassen is a Professor of Capital Markets and Management at the University of Hamburg since March 2003. In January 2024, Alexander Bassen took on roles as the inaugural Chair of the Independent Standards Board for the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and as a member of the Sustainability Reporting Board for EFRAG. Additionally, Alexander Bassen serves as Academic Director for EFFAS, is part of the Nomination Committee for the Accounting Standards Committee of Germany, and holds positions as an Honorary Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford, and a member of the G7 Impact Taskforce with The Global Steering Group for Impact Investment. In advisory capacities, Alexander Bassen is an observer and member of the Sustainable Finance Advisory Committee under the Bundesministerium der Finanzen and a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change for the Federal Ministry for the Environment. Education includes a diploma in Business Administration from Justus Liebig University Giessen, with studies also at the University of Tübingen.
