Paul Bergl

Paul Bergl, MD, FACP has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Paul is currently the Medical ICU Director at Gundersen Health System, where they oversee the intensive care unit and provides specialized care to critical patients. Paul also serves as an Intensivist, practicing in medical intensive care, cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery critical care, and neurosurgical and neurointerventional patient care.

In addition to their role at Gundersen Health System, Dr. Bergl is a Clinical Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Paul is responsible for teaching and supervising medical students from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Bergl has also held leadership roles, such as Fellowship Director for the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine, where they oversaw a fellowship program focused on diagnostic excellence.

Prior to their current positions, Dr. Bergl held the role of Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where they specialized in critical care and general internal medicine. Paul also served as the co-chair of the Medical Emergency Response Committee at Froedtert Hospital. Paul received several teaching honors and awards during their time there.

Before their academic career, Dr. Bergl worked as a Clinical Engineer at Aurora Health Care.

Paul Bergl, MD, FACP obtained their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biomedical/Medical Engineering with minors in Chemistry and Spanish at Marquette University from 2000 to 2004. Paul has additional certifications including being Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 2013 and Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine in 2018. Paul also holds a Testamur in Critical Care Echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography, obtained in 2019. Additionally, they are licensed as a Physician (MD/DO) in the State of Wisconsin since 2014.
