Maija García

Director, Education & Professional Training at Guthrie Theater

Maija García is an experienced director and choreographer with a diverse background in theater arts and education. Currently serving as the Director of Education and Professional Training at Guthrie Theater since September 2018, García is also the Executive Producer for the Art of Dance Documentary, which explores the evolution of movement and music. With a commitment to sustainable innovation, García has led Organic Magnetics since 2006, an organization focused on live installations and arts education. Notable projects include directing and choreographing for FELA! The Concert, developing original choreography for West Side Story, and directing Stories of Service, an event honoring veterans. García's work extends into the film industry, having served as Director of Movement for Spike Lee's ChiRaq. Academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sustainable Development from the California Institute of Integral Studies and studies at San Francisco State University.
