Jose Lopez-Roldan has a diverse work experience in the field of power engineering. Jose started their career in 1993 as a Visiting Researcher at Schneider Electric, where they conducted research on High Voltage insulators for Gas Insulated Substations. Jose then worked as a Senior Development Engineer at VA TECH Reyrolle (now Siemens), where they were responsible for the electrical design, prototype building, and high voltage testing of a new model of EHV Gas Insulated Substation.
In 1995, Jose worked as a Visiting Researcher at Ontario Hydro, and in 1996, they joined Pauwels Trafo Belgium as an R&D Project Manager. Here, they were responsible for a research project regarding the interaction of transformer-circuit breaker in distribution networks.
From 2000 to 2002, Jose worked as an Engineering Manager at Pauwel Contracting, where they were responsible for the electrical and mechanical design of High Voltage Transformer Substations.
In 2006, Jose joined Powerlink Queensland as a Principal Engineer, where they were responsible for the technology of High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS).
In 2009, Jose joined Zenergy Power Inc. as a Senior R&D Engineer, where they worked on the development of new High Voltage Superconducting Fault Current Limiters.
Since 2011, Jose has been working at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) as an Adjunct Associate Professor. Here, they lecture postgraduate courses and supervises PhD and bachelor theses. Jose also presents professional courses on Gas Insulated Switchgear, Circuit Breaker fundamentals, and Condition Monitoring of Switchgear.
In 2014, Jose also worked as an R&D Contract Engineer at G&W Electric Co.
Throughout their career, Jose has gained expertise in various areas including power transmission, switchgear technology, superconductivity applications, and research and development.
Jose Lopez-Roldan's education history includes a Master's Degree in Power Engineering from Universidad Politecnica de Barcelona, Spain. Jose also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering from the same institution. Additionally, they have obtained additional certifications, such as being a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland from The Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland in June 2011, and being a Chartered Professional Engineer from Engineers Australia in May 2010.
