Sr. NPD Project Engineer at G&W Electric

Sean Murphy has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Sean began their career in 1990 at Murphy Motorsports, specializing in building pavement and dirt open wheel midget cars. Sean worked as a Driver/Owner/Crew Chief and handled tasks such as engine fitment, fuel system plumbing, and race preparation.

In 2001, Sean joined Woodward MPC as a Project/Design Engineer, where they led a $72M program for Telephonics Azimuth Antenna Servo. Sean also performed inspections and customer witnessed testing.

From 2009 to 2011, Sean worked at Grayhill as a Project Engineer in the Operator Interface Division. Sean was involved in the mechanical layout design of automotive, medical, and military grade keypads.

Sean then became a Board Member of the SAE Chicago Section in 2009. Sean held this position for a year.

Moving on, from 2011 to 2014, Sean worked as a Senior Project Engineer at Merkle-Korff Industries/Nidec Corporation. Sean led projects for gearmotor products and managed various gearboxes.

From 2014 to 2016, Sean was hired as the Lead Mechanical Engineer at Heidts Automotive Group. Sean played a key role in launching 15 new bolt-on products, including suspension systems for the 3rd Gen Camaro.

For the next four years, from 2016 to 2020, Sean worked at Hendrickson as a Project Engineer in the Military, Fire and Rescue Business Unit. Sean was the lead project engineer for the development of the ROADMAAX heavy-duty rear air suspension, which successfully gained $1.5M in market share from competitors.

Currently, Sean holds the position of Sr. NPD Project Engineer at G&W Electric Co., where they utilize their expertise in new product development.

Sean Murphy has a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago, which they obtained from 1999 to 2001. Prior to that, they earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Joliet Junior College between 1997 and 1999. In addition to their formal education, Sean has also obtained several certifications. Sean completed the Geomagic Design X Basic Training in 3D Faro Scanning and Reverse Engineering from the 3D Systems Corporation in February 2015. Sean also obtained certifications in Advanced Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and Fundamental Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing from Applied Geometrics, Inc. in July 2014 and May 2014 respectively.
