Carlos Santos-Burgoa

Carlos Santos-Burgoa is a prominent academic and health policy expert currently serving as a Professor of Global Health Policy at George Washington University since August 2015. Previously, Carlos held significant leadership positions at PAHO/WHO, including Unit Chief on Noncommunicable Diseases Risk Factors and Interim Director of the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health. Carlos's experience spans various roles, from Senior Advisor at PAHO/WHO to General Director of Health Promotion at Mexico's Ministry of Health, where strategic initiatives were developed to address public health challenges. An accomplished educator, Carlos has also taught at the University of Michigan and contributed to the founding of key health institutions in Mexico, focusing on epidemiology and public health. Carlos holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and an M.P.H. from The Johns Hopkins University, complemented by executive management training at IPADE.
