Joe Wingate is a board member at Hamilton County Department of Education. Joe was previously an instructional coach at Brainerd High School from June 2018 to July 2021. There, they worked closely with the math team to improve school-wide performance on benchmark and end-of-year exams. Joe also led professional development for the whole school around utilizing student performance data, technology, and best practices. Prior to that, they were a founding 9th grade math teacher at DSST Public Schools from June 2017 to May 2018. As part of the founding team, they helped build the school wide culture and expectations. Joe planned and taught integrated math classes, some of which they cotaught with the intervention lead to serve students requiring academic supports. Joe has also been a technology resources engineer at Albemarle Corporation from June 2013 to June 2014 and a chemical engineering intern at Evergreen Packaging from June 2012 to August 2012. Additionally, they were a mathematics teacher at Overland Trail Middle School from July 2015 to May 2017 and an EXCEL program assistant coordinator at Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts from June 2011 to July 2011.
Joe Wingate's educational career began with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. After working in the engineering field for a few years, Joe decided to go back to school to get their Master's degree in Education from Adams State University. In addition to their formal education, Joe has also completed certification programs in data analytics and visualization from Coursera and LinkedIn, and they have a Google Data Analytics Certificate. Most recently, Joe obtained their Secondary Teaching certification from the Tennessee Department of Education.
