Assistant Late Shift Patrol Commander at Hancock County Sheriff's Office

Nick Ernstes has extensive experience in law enforcement, currently serving as the Assistant Late Shift Patrol Commander at the Hancock County Sheriff's Office since February 2023. Previously, Nick held the position of Merit Sergeant within the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, where responsibilities included overseeing the Law Enforcement Division and coordinating the PACE Team. With a history of advancement, Nick worked as the PACE Team Coordinator focusing on Criminal Interdiction, and served as a SWAT Operator from 2004 to 2009. Nick began a law enforcement career as Chief of the Carthage Police Department from 1999 to 2003 and has since held various roles including Deputy Sheriff at Rush County Sheriff’s Department. Nick holds a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement from the University of Indianapolis.
