Shaowei Liu has held a variety of roles throughout their career. In 2020, they became the CTO and co-founder of Haofood. From 2017 to 2020, they were the CEO and founder of the Shanghai-based company, Nature's Variety UAE. From 2008 to 2017, they were a professor, vice director of the Ecust FDA Research Center, and Vice Dean at East China University of Science and Technology. From 2006 to 2007, they were a process engineer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. From 2005 to 2006, they were a postdoctoral scientist at Kansas State University.

Shaowei Liu obtained a Ph.D in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Penn State University between 2001 and 2005. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Food Biotechnology from China Agricultural University between 1998 and 2001.
