Tess Nelson has extensive work experience in the planning sector. Tess started their career at Charnwood Borough Council as a Planning Officer in the Development Management department from 1999 to 2001. Tess then joined Harborough District Council in 2001 and held various roles including Planning Officer, Planning Policy Officer, Principal Planning Officer, and Interim Strategic and Local Planning Manager. Since 2019, Tess has been working as the Strategic and Local Planning Manager at Harborough District Council.

Tess Nelson holds a Master's degree in Town and Regional Planning from The University of Sheffield. Tess also pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from De Montfort University. Tess completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Leicester, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Geography (Social Science).
