Jessica Orchowitz has a diverse work experience in various fields. Jessica began their career at Kohl's Department Stores as a Sales Associate from August 2007 to August 2009. Jessica then moved on to work as an Assistant Clerk at Bel Air Center for Addictions / Tyler Pediatrics for a short period from June 2009 to August 2009. Following this, they worked as a Receptionist at Valley Mansion by Martin's Caterers from September 2009 to September 2014.
In 2013, Jessica gained experience as a Forensic Specialist Intern at the Office of the Public Defender Maryland from May 2013 to August 2013. Jessica then transitioned to the Baltimore City Police Department, where they served as a Crime Laboratory Technician II from September 2014 to December 2016.
From January 2017 onwards, Jessica joined the Harford County Sheriff's Office, initially as a Forensic Investigator, and later as the Forensic Lab Director. In their role as Forensic Lab Director, they manage firearms and latents-related casework, oversees unit members' work product, and ensures the accuracy and reliability of the unit's forensic analysis. Jessica also manages incoming firearms casework and allocates casework to personnel.
Additionally, Jessica has recently taken up the position of Adjunct Professor at Harford Community College, starting in August 2021 and expected to continue until April 2023.
Jessica Orchowitz holds a Master's Degree in Forensic Science from Towson University, which they obtained from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in General Chemistry and Forensic Chemistry at Towson University from 2008 to 2012.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Jessica has acquired various certifications. In August 2019, they completed the First Line Supervisor Training offered by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. Jessica also obtained the Certified Firearms Specialist certification from the International Firearms Specialist Academy in May 2019. Moreover, they achieved the Foundations of Leadership certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in May 2019.
Furthermore, Jessica has expertise in Shooting Incident Reconstruction, having completed a course by TriTech Forensics in collaboration with IAI in May 2017. Additionally, they are certified in Operations Level Search and Rescue by the Southeastern K-9 Search & Rescue, which they obtained in June 2013.
