Carlos Fernandes

Carlos Fernandes is an experienced engineer with a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems within the mining sector. Currently serving as a Project Engineer at Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited since January 2009, Carlos has led projects focused on the safe installation, operation, maintenance of underground equipment, and a decline shaft deepening project. Previously, Carlos held various positions at AngloGold Ashanti from 2012 to 2023, concentrating on optimizing mining technologies, and worked as an Electrical Engineer at Lundin Mining Corporation in Portugal. Early career roles included Electromechanical Engineer at Clemarque/Hidrosegur, Electrical Supervisor at Soldaduras Irmoas Lopes, Resident Engineer at JC Gold Mining, and Section Engineer at Anglo American Metallurgical Coal. Carlos holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, a GCC Mines and Works in Electrical, and a National Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
