Leburu Mahumapelo

Leburu Mahumapelo has a diverse work experience in risk management roles. Leburu currently works as the Head of Enterprise Risk at Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at City Power from 2017 to 2022 as the General Manager of Enterprise Risk Management, where they implemented an ISO31000 risk management system and contributed to the strategic repositioning of the organization. From 2003 to 2017, Leburu held various risk management positions at Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, including Chief Advisor Integrated Risk Management for Transmission and Senior Risk Advisor. In these roles, they developed and implemented risk management plans, built risk management awareness culture, and reduced insurance premiums through effective operations management. Leburu also managed the insured Employees Benefits Portfolio and successfully established an effective and streamlined benefits portfolio value proposition aligned with company needs.

Leburu Mahumapelo completed a Bachelor of Social Science Honours degree in Industrial Sociology at the University of Cape Town from 1992 to 1996. In addition to this degree, Leburu Mahumapelo obtained several certifications. They include: Risk Management Board Exams from IRMSA-Institute of Risk Management South Africa in 2014, Certificate of Business to Business Marketing Management from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria in 2009, Certificate of Enterprise Wide Risk Management (Cum Laude) from the University of Johannesburg in 2007, Certificate of Proficiency (COP) Intermediate Certificate of Business Studies from THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE OF SOUTH AFRICA in 2005, and Management Development Programme from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria in 2001.
