Janis Schmees Burke

Janis Schmees Burke serves as the CEO of the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority, a position held since July 2006, making their the third chief executive and the first woman to lead the organization since its establishment in 1997. Under Janis Schmees Burke's leadership, the authority has managed a billion dollars in bond debt service for Houston's premier professional sports stadiums and secured major sporting events for the city. Prior to this role, Janis Schmees Burke served as Acting Executive Director at the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau from July 2004 to July 2006, as President of the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau from 2002 to 2004, and as Director of Sales/Marketing for the Metro Detroit Convention from September 1998 to October 2002.
