Michael Murray

Director of Finance at Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra

Michael Murray is the current Director of Finance at Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. Prior to their current position, Murray held various positions in the arts and software industries.

In 2003, Murray became the Executive Director of Gretna Music, a not-for-profit cultural arts organization. Michael was responsible for all business functions and presenting two annual concert series featuring world-class jazz and classical artists. Michael reported to the board of directors and supervised a small staff and large volunteer corps of over 140. Murray redesigned and expanded artistic programs according to strategic plan, developed and managed relationships with community stakeholders and partners, led marketing, fundraising, artistic programming and education programs, increased the number of annual events from 20 to 25 annually, and produced over 200 concerts over nine seasons.

Prior to their work with Gretna Music, Murray worked as a Senior Software Development Engineer for Interworks Software, Inc. from July 1999 to May 2003. In this role, they were responsible for developing software applications and providing technical support for customers.

Murray also served as the Interim Director of the Arts at Clayton Community Church from June 1998 to June 1999. In this role, they were responsible for planning and executing all aspects of the church's arts ministry. This included overseeing a $1 million budget, coordinating with outside contractors, and managing a team of staff and volunteers.

Michael Murray has a MBA in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a BS in Business from Cal State East Bay- College of Business & Economics. Michael also has a Bachelor of Science in Business from California State University - East Bay.

They are on a team with Tom Acri - Stage Manager, Mark Hunsberger - Director of Education & Youth Symphony Administrator, and Gloria Giambalvo - Director of Sales and Marketing. Michael Murray reports to Matthew Herren, Executive Director.
