Patricia Daly Vance

Patricia Daly Vance has performed as a violist with the Hartford Symphony since 1978. She served for many years as Orchestra Committee Chair and Musician Representative to the HSO Board. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Eastman School of Music, and received her Master’s in Viola Performance at the Juilliard School, where she was a student of Lillian Fuchs.

Before moving to Hartford, she was a member of the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Tanglewood Fellowship Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Musica Aeterna, and Musica Sacra. She has performed under the baton of Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Seiji Ozawa, and Erich Leinsdorf. Along with her HSO colleagues she is honored to have performed with many of the world’s finest musicians, including Rudolf Serkin, Rostropovich, Midori, Andre Watts, and many others.

Patricia studied chamber music with Lillian Fuchs, Claus Adam, Arthur Balsam, and Gunther Schuller. She co-founded the Farmington Chamber Players and the Norfolk Chamber Players. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed performing chamber music with her musical friends and colleagues. She particularly enjoys performing with her colleagues Lu Sun and Peter Zay in the Mosaic Trio, a group that performs in inner city and rural schools and for community concerts.

She taught in the public school string programs in Farmington, West Hartford, and Simsbury. While teaching in Norfolk, Patricia founded a new string program, which was then voted into the town budget and thrived for many years. For 5 years she was the Director of the Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy Orchestra, where she established a new string program combining inner city and suburban students.
