Laura Kaakua

Deputy to the Chair, DLNR at Hawaii.gov

Most recently, Laura has worked as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiʻi Land Trust since 2019, setting strategic visions and goals that further its mission to protect and steward the lands that sustain Hawaiʻi for current and future generations.

She has also served as the Native Lands Program Manager at Trust for Public Land, a Lecturer at the Williams S. Richardson School of Law, and as a Coordinator for Envision Hawaiʻi. Through these roles, she has demonstrated management, conservation, and land acquisition leadership results, and facilitated large-scale ecosystem restoration planning efforts with diverse partners.
