William Oku

Most recently, Billy has served as the State Sheriff of the Department of Public Safety since 2020, leading investigations and strategy operations for special task forces to suppress criminal activity. He has a strong law enforcement and administrative background that align with the skills necessary to support the transition efforts of the department.

He has also served as a Senior Special Assistant for the Office of the Governor, Deputy Sheriff, Security Supervisor at Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., Chief of Staff for Councilmember Lee Donohue at the City and County of Honolulu, Operations Manager for Cam Security, Inc., and as the Deputy Sheriff for Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in Washington.
