Kelvin H. Taketa

Kelvin H. Taketa is the Director at Hawaiian Electric Industries and a former Chair of the Board of Directors at Independent Sector. Kelvin has also served as a Senior Fellow at the Hawaii Community Foundation and as a founding member and Managing Member of Sunrise Capital, LLC.

Taketa has been committed to philanthropy and community service throughout their career. Kelvin founded and served as Executive Director of The Nature Conservancy's Asia Pacific Region from 1990 to 1998. In 1998, they returned to their home state of Hawaii to become the Senior Fellow at the Hawaii Community Foundation. In 2005, they co-founded Sunrise Capital, LLC, a private equity company focused on sustainable aquaculture in Hawaii. In 2009, they joined the Board of Directors of Feeding America, and in 2016 they became a member of the Board of Directors of The Center for Effective Philanthropy.

Taketa has a long history of leadership in the Hawaiian community. Kelvin served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Stupski Foundation from 2013 to 2015 and as a member of the Board of Directors for Hawaiian Electric Industries from 2010 to 2016. Kelvin currently serves on the boards of directors for The Center for Effective Philanthropy and Sunrise Capital, LLC.

Kelvin H. Taketa received their Doctor of Law (JD) from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Colorado College.
