Jay Bullen

Founder-in-residence at HAX

Jay Bullen is a Co-Founder of Untap, a Visiting Scientist at Imperial College London, a Founder-in-Residence at HAX, and an EF LD16 at Entrepreneur First. In 2020, they were a Visiting Research Engineer at Caminos de Agua, where they led a research engineering project developing a low-cost method for monitoring carcinogenic arsenic in drinking water using Arduino technology (electrochemistry). From 2016-2018, they were a Teaching Assistant at Imperial College London, supervising 2 PhD students, 1 UROP student, and 3 Nuffield interns, as well as managing a geochemistry lab. In 2019, they were a Science Policy Adviser at the Department for International Development (DFID) on a secondment funded by the EPSRC. From 2013-2016, they were a Science Teacher at Gyeonggi Academy for Foreign Languages, where they oversaw significant increases in the average class grade, supervised a science winter camp, a team competing at Gwacheon National Science Museum, and extended essay research projects.

Jay Bullen has a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Earth Science and Engineering from Imperial College London, which they obtained in 2020. Jay also has a Master's degree in Chemistry from UCL, which they obtained in 2012. Additionally, they have obtained four certifications: Chartered Chemist of the Royal Society of Chemistry from the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2022, Intermediate Spanish (DELE level B1) from the Spanish Cultural Center in 2021, Test of Proficiency in Korean (Level 2) from the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) in 2016, and CELTA qualified English teacher from Cambridge Assessment English in 2012.
